Your car has a LARGE reservoir for this liquid. Sure you can use water. But you better have some sort of additive in it to dissolve smear and grit. I successfully use a 50% mix of water and alcohol in winter and a 20% mix in summer. Don't buy any already mixed stuff- you will pay for water with a bit of additive.

The reservoir on Discoveries has an built-in filter that can be removed for cleaning. Always leave it in when topping up.
