The Tanami road

Alice Springs to Rabbit Flat - 600 km

Rabbit Flat - Great Northern Highway 434.8 km

The most direct connection between Central Australia and the Kimberley. It's a long and remote road but relatively easy. Heavy transports and tourist busses use the road. From Rabbit Flat other possible roads exist, especially the rarely used sandy track up north to Wave Hill.

No permits required if you stay on the Tanami Road or the track to Wave Hill.

Rabbit Flat Roadhouse closed every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. (Why the hell??)
